बेहिसाब भूजल दोहन भूकंप के खतरे को विनाशकारी बना देगा। हाल फिलहाल के दो अध्ययन हमारे लिए खतरे का संकेत दे रहे हैं। एक अध्ययन पूर्वी हिमालयी क्षेत्र में भूकंप के आवृत्ति और तीब्रता बढ़ने की बात कर रहा है। तो दूसरा भूजल का अत्यधिक दोहन से दिल्ली-NCR क्षेत्र के कुछ भाग भविष्य में धंसने की संभावना की बात कर रहा है। दोनों अध्ययनों को जोड़ कर अगर पढ़ा जाए तस्वीर का एक नया पहलू सामने आता है।

आर्सेनिक एक जहरीली धातु है। यदि इसका उपयोग अधिक मात्रा में किया जाय तो मानव शरीर को नुकसान पहुँचाती है। जैसे दिल, फेफड़े, गुर्दे, दिमाग और त्वचा इत्यादि में तरह-तरह के रोग पैदा हो जाते हैं।

छत्तीसगढ़ में गाँवों से लेकर शहरों तक जल संकट नक्सली समस्या जैसी बड़ी समस्या बन गई है। क्योंकि नदियों का पानी उद्योगों ने निचोड़ लिया। तालाबों की जान बिल्डरों ने ले ली। नतीजा पानी का हाहाकार राजधानी रायपुर से लेकर गाँवों तक है। पानी की प्राथमिकता अब रोटी, कपड़ा और मकान से अधिक है। क्योंकि एक तरफ धरती प्यासी है तो दूसरी ओर लोग प्यासे हैं।
भूमिगत जल के अत्यधिक दोहन से होगी कठिनाई
