River Kali (East) in Meerut

The river enters into the city accommodating a huge number of untreated wastes from various industries located in Muzaffarnagar. In addition to this, Meerut contributes to the pollution of the river through various augments which are discussed herein in detail.
River Kali (East) - From Boon to Bane
Posted on 03 Oct, 2016 11:08 AMThe river passes through almost 1200 villages and sub-urban areas and was being used for various domestic purposes especially for irrigation throughout its course. Its water was considered to be good for irrigation and better suited to the crops than the ground water. This was due to certain minerals found in the region near to its source and all through its course.

एनसीआर में शामिल महाभारतकालीन शहर मेरठ में भले ही विकास की अन्धाधुन्ध दौड़ क्यों न चल रही हो। लेकिन तेज रफ्तार भरे इस शहर के कई गाँव ऐसे हैं जो आज भी जिन्दगी की बुनियादी सुविधाओं के अभाव में गुजारने को मजबूर हैं। गंगा यमुना तहजीब की गवाह दोआबा भूमि कहलाने वाले मेरठ में गंगाजल से फसलें लहलहाती थीं। विकास की दौड़ ने हवाईअड्डे, शॉपिंग मॉल और बहुमंजिला इमारतें तो शहर में खड़ी कर दीं। लेकिन इनके अन्धेरे में खेत-खलिहान खोते चले गए। खेतों में गेहूँ, गन्ने की जगह खड़ी होने वाली इमारतों, मॉल्स, फ्लाईओवर और सड़कों ने महज खाद्यान्न का संकट ही खड़ा नहीं किया, बल्कि उन तमाम ग्रामीण औरतों से शौचालय का वो अधिकार भी छीन लिया जो सवेरे चार बजे उठकर दिशा-मैदान के लिये सीधे इन खेतों की शरण में जाती थीं।

Posted on 21 Apr, 2016 03:57 PM मीठे पानी व उसकी प्रचुर उपलब्धता के लिये प्रसिद्ध गंगा-यमुना का दोआब में भी अब पानी का संकट सिर उठाने लगा है। इसी के साथ गाँवों में जल प्रदूषण भी एक गम्भीर समस्या बन चुका है। इन दोनों समस्याओं की जड़ में यहाँ के तालाबों का मिटना व गदला होना है।
