This working paper by the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC), UNICEF and WaterAid highlights the fact that a staggering 716 million men, women and children defecate in the open every day, in South Asia, contributing to the most appalling concentration of poverty and disease and the poorest standards of hygiene in the world.

This study by the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) examines the global patterns and impacts of droughts through the mapping of several drought-related characteristics – either at a country level or at regular grid scales. Characteristics cover various aspects of droughts – from global distribution of meteorological and hydrological drought risks to social vulnerability and indices related to water infrastructure.

The SaciWATERs joined the Cap-Net Global Network in 2009 as one of its South Asian partners to create the SaciWATERs-CapNet Network (SCaN). SCaN is a platform for partnership towards capacity building in Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) across the South Asia region. It consists of autonomous regional and national institutions and individuals committed to capacity building in the water sector. It aims to strengthen the human and institutional capacity by adopting an integrated approach within the water sector in South Asia region through education & training, research, knowledge based development, advocacy and networking.

The Water Channel was launched at the World Water Forum in 2009 in Istanbul as a partnership of MetaMeta CommunicationsNymphaeaUNESCO-IHE, and Cap-Net. The idea was to support education and awareness in water by making video material available that is often scattered and easily lost. It wanted to 'touch' its visitors and to help inspire them to work towards a world of better water management. The first year exceeded the expectations in terms of uptake and content! Joint projects were carried out with a wide variety of organizations and new partners joined in.
