सरकार चूंकि अपने विकास की प्राथमिकतायें खुद तय नहीं कर रही है, अब उसका पूरा ध्यान बाजार के लिए सुविधाएं विकसित करने पर है इसीलिए जमीनी समस्याओं और सरकार के प्रयासों के बीच मेल नहीं बैठ पा रही है। यह भी एक ऐसा मुद्दा है जिस पर अधिकारी योजनाएं तो बना रहे हैं किंतु राजनैतिक प्रतिबद्धता का कहीं नामो-निशान नजर नहीं आता है और जहां तक स्वैच्छिक संस्थाओं की भूमिका की बात है, तो अफसोस इसका है कि उन्होंन

निजी कंपनियां भी स्वच्छता अभियान में भागीदारी करती हुई दिख रही हैं। वल्र्ड टॉयलेट डे के मौके पर  डाबर इण्डिया लिमिटेड ने राष्ट्रीय राजधानी क्षेत्र के नई दिल्ली नगरपालिका परिषद् (एनडीएमसी) के 35 सरकारी स्कूलों में बड़े पैमाने पर सफाई और जागरूकता अभियान शुरू किया। इस मुहिम की शुरूआत गोल मार्किट स्थित एनपी गर्ल्स सीनियर सेकेंडरी स्कूल से की गई।

काठमांडू- स्थित गृहयेश्वरी तथा पशुपतिनाथ-मंदिर-परिसर में प्रतिवर्ष लाखों श्रद्धालु दर्शन के लिए आते हैं। यहां आनेवालों में अधिकतर आत्मिक शांति के लिए आते हैं। कुछ पर्यटन के इरादे से पहुंचते हैं। कोई किसी भी इरादे से जाए, उन सभी में एक बात समान है-किसी-न-किसी स्थिति में उन सभी को शौचालय के प्रयोग की आवश्यकता जरूर पड़ती है।

It's not just about rape
It is time we realise that sanitation is not just a development target that can be achieved by increasing the number of toilets. It is a reflection of how we view ourselves, both men and women, as equal members of society.
