Posted on 15 Oct, 2010 03:43 PM अनियंत्रित और मैदानी प्रकृति का विकास उत्तराखंड जैसे पहाड़ी इलाकों के लिए विनाशकारी सिद्ध हो रहा है। हमें यह भी याद रखना चाहिए कि पड़ोस में लगी आग यदि हम नहीं बुझाएगें तो हमारा घर भी जल कर भस्म हो जाएगा। पूरा उत्तरी भारत इस बार उत्तराखंड की बाढ़ की भयावहता का विस्तार बन कर रह गया। इस विभीषिका का पुनरावृति रोकने के लिए आवश्यक भी है कि पहाड़ों को नैसर्गिक रूप से बचे रहने दिया जाए।-का.सं.सितम्बर के तीसरे सप्ताह की अखण्ड बारिश ने पूरे उत्तराखण्ड को तहस-नहस करके रख दिया था। अनुमान है कि इस दौरान दो सौ लोग तथा एकाध हजार पशु मारे गए। एक हजार मकान और फसल से भरे खेत भी नष्ट हो गए थे और अनेक सड़कें भी बह गई। वर्ष 1956, 1970 एवं 1978 में भी इस प्रकार की बारिश हुई थी। लेकिन तब इस प्रकार की तबाही नहीं हुई थी। मेरे बचपन में जहां गोपेश्वर गांव की आबादी 500 थी वह आज 15000 हो गई है। नए फैले हुए गोपेश्वर में बरसात के दिनों में टूट-फूट एवं जल-भराव की घटना कभी कभार होती रहती हैं लेकिन जो पुराना गांव है उसमें अभी तक इस प्रकार की गड़बड़ी नहीं के बराबर है। गोपेश्वर मन्दिर के नजदीक भूमिगत नाली पानी के निकास के लिए बनी थी जिसमें जलभराव की नौबत ही नहीं आती थी।
