अब उन खरे तालाबों की खोज कौन करेगा? 
अनुपम मिश्र या हम सबके प्रिय पमपम पर पाँच साल पहले लिखा गया श्रवण गर्ग का यहआलेख है। अनुपम भी उनके द्वारा तलाशे गए तालाबों की तरह से ही खरे थे। अनुपम ने तो तालाबों को उनके दूर होते हुए भी खोज लिया । हम उन्हें अपने इतने नज़दीक होते हुए भी खोज नहीं पाए। 19 दिसम्बर को अनुपम की पुण्यतिथि थी।

Two rivers – the Dibru and the Lohit - flow along together and meet a third - the Brahmaputra. This vast patch of land they give birth to is a treasure trove for wildlife and the Dibru Saikhowa National Park is located right there. To its south, exists a vast expanse of swamps and marshes interspersed with sandy islands.

Ufrenkhal – the village
Driving towards Ufrenkhal, a village in Pauri Garhwal (Uttarakhand), I see a lush, green mountain covered with deodar, banj and utees trees. Little did I realize that this diverse and dense forest, which is alive with wildlife, is very new. 40 years ago, this vast area was a firing range!

Water rights are being discussed today as a possibility. This will lead to civil war in this country. Rights are meaningless without paying attention to duties. It is our constitutional duty to preserve and heal our environment. 

If we pay attention to freeing our waters:

Rivers are one of the prime suppliers of drinking water. They are also important for agriculture, fisheries and recreational activities. However some of these activities also pollute the rivers. Pollution can be either from point sources such as industrial or sewage effluent discharges, or can be diffused from roads or agricultural run-off. Therefore it is necessary that rivers are protected from pollution and are managed as a sustainable resource for all of the activities that depend on their water quality.
