The various initiatives taken up include installing sensors/push type tap for hand wash/urinals, close loop hydro testing, installing drip irrigation and sprinklers for garden, installing float valves for old overhead tank, using percolated rain water for process, use of AC condensed water, use of air cooled instead of water cooled compressors, treating waste water and more.

This study by the Subhash B Bhagwat, the Visiting Fulbright Scholar to ACWADAM deals with economic issues in the management of water resources in the drought prone Pune district of Maharashtra. The situation in Pune city is intimately connected to the situation in Pune district. Likewise, the state and national policies and conditions ultimately determine what happens in individual districts or towns. Even then there is plenty of room for cities and districts to influence their own fate with respect to water and the related issues. Therefore, this report focuses on the district of Pune and Pune City but only in the context of and in conjunction with the state of Maharashtra and to some extent India itself.

This document deals with a study by ACWADAM of Pondhe watershed area in Maharashtra based on rapid hydrogeological mapping through field studies. Large areas of India are covered by what are called “hard rocks” that are mostly of igneous and metamorphic origin. Many arid and semi-arid regions of India obtain water supplies from groundwater stored in these rocks.
