Observing water harvesting from many different geographies, demographies and cultural setups, we have different approaches emerging to address the situation! The following are the cases presented by the speakers from their regions of work, who have come to understand and identify what works in RWH.

This report on the state of the environment in Tikamgarh district, prepared by Development Alternatives, provides a summary of the environmental attributes and condition of the district and the human impacts on the environment. It also provides a public record of district authority, industry and community activities and achievements in responding to pressures on the environment. The purpose of this report is to bring out an overview of the environmental scenario of the district to serve as a baseline document and assist in logical and information based decision making.

The document informs that traditionally Indians worshipped both water and rain as “Jala” and “Varuna”. Even rivers were worshipped. Till 3000 B.C., RWH happened without human effort as rain got collected in rivers and natural depressions. Civilizations flourished on river banks all over the world Indus valley civilization in India.

This draft research report by the People’s Science Institute (PSI), Dehradun deals with groundwater contamination near the Union Carbide plant at Bhopal. The main objective of PSI's monitoring exercise was to assess the degree of groundwater contamination, if any, in the vicinity of the erstwhile UCIL plant particularly in the context of the huge quantum of the ill-contained toxic wastes lying unheeded inside.

This paper was done by WaterAid to assess and understand the context of Rural Water and Sanitation programme in the state of Madhya Pradesh. This is a follow up of a desk review and explores the issue of water and sanitation in various dimensions and finds out that the current state of water and sanitation in Madhya Pradesh falls short on equity, inclusion, ensuring water security and sustainability of water sources.

The taluka-level GIS database for Maharashtra, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh, is a CD containing a GIS (Geographical Information System) database of the spread of and expenditure on watershed development programmes in 3 states of India, viz., Karnataka, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
