This map indicates the extent of salinity affected areas in the coastal states of the country

The map shows that Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra and Gujarat are high salinity zones, and Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and West Bengal are moderate salinity zones.

वैज्ञानिकों का मानना है कि वर्ष 2100 तक तापमान में 1.4 से 5.8°C तक की वृद्धि के साथ समुद्र के स्तरों में 18-59 से.मी. तक की वृद्धि की संभावना है जिसके चलते तटवर्ती क्षेत्रों में जल प्लावन के कारण वर्ष 2050 तक 200 मिलियन लोग अपनी जगह से अलग हो जाएंगे।
