India is dealing with a growing water stress crisis brought on by things like climate change, population growth, pollution, and changes in land use. Currently, there are about 1400 cubic meters of water available per person, but by 2050, that number is predicted to fall to 1200 cubic meters. Already, a large portion of India is deemed to be water-stressed.

The Ganges and Narmada rivers, in particular, have been severely degraded as a result of India's reliance on dams for irrigation and hydropower. Despite decades of significant environmental movements opposed to dams, they largely failed because they couldn't stop the work already in progress.

Himachal Pradesh has once again been hit by natural calamities and has yet to fully recover from the destruction brought on by the severe rains in July. The death toll from incidents related to rain and cloudbursts continues to rise in the state. Heavy rains have caused widespread destruction due to landslides in Shimla's Summer Hill, Krishna Nagar, and Phagli.

These days, Punjab is in the grip of floods. In more than 1,400 villages in 19 districts of Punjab, water from Sutlej, Beas, Ravi, and Ghaggar is causing heavy damage to crops, houses, people, and other belongings. The state government has evacuated more than 25,000 people to safer places to avoid the flood.
