Navigating the intricate challenge of floods and droughts
Posted on 30 Aug, 2023 12:43 PMFor centuries, India has grappled with the regular occurrence of floods and droughts. Floods and droughts, among the most concrete and devastating outcomes of the climate crisis, are now increasingly affecting communities worldwide.

How can Himachal Pradesh be protected from natural disasters?
Posted on 29 Aug, 2023 10:54 PMHimachal Pradesh has once again been hit by natural calamities and has yet to fully recover from the destruction brought on by the severe rains in July. The death toll from incidents related to rain and cloudbursts continues to rise in the state. Heavy rains have caused widespread destruction due to landslides on Shimla's Summer Hill, Krishna Nagar, and Phagli.

Rethinking India’s water and climate narrative in agriculture
Posted on 28 Aug, 2023 07:31 PMAs I embarked on my agtech and water tour in India, I was surprised to experience such a diverse range of extreme climates in just one month. I travelled from drought-stricken landscapes in North India (early June 2023) to flood-ravaged regions while leaving the country (early July 2023) and encountered uneven weather patterns in between.

Changing crop types and water scarcity: The case of Marathwada
Posted on 27 Aug, 2023 04:57 AMMarathwada is one of the most drought-prone regions of India and the increasing severity of droughts and their adverse impacts on socioeconomic conditions in the region have been of major concern in recent years. Majority of the area of Marathwada is under rain-fed agriculture and the summer monsoon rainfall is crucial for agricultural production in the region.

Journeying from setbacks to successes, one step at a time
Posted on 23 Aug, 2023 04:08 PMThe Maralappanahalli community has come a long way since the formation of its Grama Parisara Abhivruddi Samiti in 2017. The livelihood basket of the 40 households here largely comprised agriculture and livestock rearing for the longest time, but the Samiti has been instrumental in helping its people learn about MGNREGS and avail it to support their livelihoods.

Challenges for pastoral communities in eastern India
Posted on 21 Aug, 2023 10:36 AMIndia is home to a thriving community of pastoralists whose lifestyles represent one of the oldest and most sustainable systems. These herders practice mobility, moving their livestock from one climatic region to another every year in search of adequate food, suitable pastures, and grasslands.
