Direct seeding initiatives with paddy farmers in Punjab - PepsiCo India Holdings - Gurgaon
A presentation that describes the efforts of PepsiCo India Holdings, Gurgaon to promote sustainable agriculture initiatives with paddy farmers in Punjab. Posted on 17 Nov, 2009 05:58 PM

Work taken up focussed on promoting direct seeding instead of transplantation in the paddy crop. As a result of this, about 30% reduction in water consumption was achieved covering about 1100 acres in 5 states. Farmers could also reduce their production costs by upto Rs.1400/acre.

This map shows the regions in the country that are regularly affected by floods.

The major flood prone regions are Punjab, Haryana, most of the Gangetic plains including Uttar Pradesh, North Bihar and West Bengal, the Brahmaputra valley, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Orissa, and South Gujarat.
