Coastal Salinity Prevention Cell (CSPC) is a joint initiative of Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (India), Ambuja Cement Foundation and Sir Ratan Tata Trust (SRTT). CSPC has a mandate to work on issues addressing livelihood enhancement of communities affected by increasing salinity ingress in the coastal areas. Doon valley is known for its spring clusters. The mountain flanks of the Doon valley have a chain of swamps.  Extensive aquifers of Doon spring clusters provide significant/sufficient storage of water. These spring clusters have hydrological effects such as promoting ground water recharge, intercepting rain and storing rain water.

The Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) under the Ministry of Water Resources has released a publication entitled “Aquifer systems of India” apart from aquifer atlas for six states viz. Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh and Meghalaya.

Thanal, an NGO in Trivandrum city, Kerala that continues to work on a range of environmental issues in the state had organised 'Bag Tree', a zero waste campaign in collaboration with the Zero Waste Centre in Kovalam, Trivandrum with the aim of creating awareness among the people to stop using plastic bags and replace them by paper bags.
