Dewas District

Dewas, an industrial township located 37 Kms north-east of Indore on the Malwa plateau in Madhya Pradesh, India has witnessed urban water crises since 1990s. Even after the up-gradation of Kshipra augmentation and distribution project, the access to water for the residents of Dewas town would remain a dream.

Krishi Teerth is an ashram run by Malpani trust, where Amrut Krushi is being practised for the last five years. Currently there is one family permanently residing at the ashram living an agriculture-centred lifestyle. The ashram has seven acres of land where different experiments are being conducted for optimising farm production with zero external inputs. These experiments are specifically beneficial for marginal farmers and small land holders.

The discussion paper by Carewater INREM Foundation on possibility of revival of dug wells in hard rock India through recharge is based on a field study across ten districts of the country. The study seeks to understand how localized governance of groundwater in hard rock areas is to be pursued through pricing (water, energy), legal regulation and community institutions. Water supply augmentation and demand management are both to be taken care of, directly through regulation or through indirect instruments such as pricing.
