The Netherlands Fellowship Programme (NFP) is a demand-driven fellowship programme designed to foster capacity building within organisations by providing training and education to their mid-career staff members.

Multimedia journalism & water course

Water is the source of all life. And, increasingly, it is a source of conflict, tension, diplomacy and national/international policy as the pressure on resources continues to grow. Learn how to design and produce attractive and effective multimedia stories on this most pressing of global issues.

Who should apply

The course is designed for working journalists with at least three years professional experience in broadcast, print or online media.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, you will be familiar with:

  •     Current global issues to do with water management and their (potential) impact on developing societies
  •     Researching and gathering information and ideas for multimedia stories on water issues
  •     Writing, sourcing and making digital photos, recording and editing audio and video for online publication
  •     Examples of best practice in multimedia journalism
  •     The impact and use of social media in the practice of multimedia journalism
  •     Planning and carrying out multimedia journalism assignments about water issues and publishing stories online

Admission requirement

The applicants are expected:

  • To have a minimum of three years working experience in the media
  • To have successfully followed secondary education, and professional education or training in media
  • To be used to work with computers
  • To speak and write in English (the course language) sufficiently
  • To submit a letter of motivation in English (150-250 words) explaining he reasons for applying for the course, its relevance to your work and that of your organisation, and its potential contribution to enhancing the performance and the capacity of both
  • To complete our admissions requirements at the beginning of the course we need to see the original (or if you prefer a properly certified copy) of your most recent educational qualification in secondary or higher education. Please make sure you bring this with you since we will ask to see it on the opening day of the course

English language test

Since English is the working language of the course, proficiency in English is an absolute necessity. Successful candidates will have a level of proficiency in English equivalent to scores of 550 (paper based) or 213 (computer based) for TOEFL and 6 for IELTS.
