Ministry of Culture operates the Scheme for the Award of Senior/Junior Fellowships for undertaking research oriented projects in the fields of performing, literary and plastic arts as also new areas related to culture. The scheme has recently been revised and, starting from the year 2010-11, a total of 400 Fellowships will be awarded for a maximum period of two years, out of which 200 are Senior fellowships having a value of Rs.20,000/- per month for artistes in the age group of above 40 years and 200 are Junior Fellowships having a value of Rs.10,000/- per month for the artistes in the age group of 25-40 years.
This fellowship supports research/documentation on various aspects of culture - which could include traditional systems of managing our water, agriculture, environment etc. The selected candidates will have to undertake academic or application oriented research work on projects for which they have been awarded the fellowship. They will complete their projects within two years and submit the same to the Ministry. Extension of time by a maximum of three months will be permissible without any additional financial liability to the Government.
