Gauhati University was established by an act of the State Legislature, namely, the Gauhati University Act 1947 (Assam Act, XVI of 1947), of the Government of Assam in the year 1948. The University is funded by the University Grants Commission and the Government of Assam. Besides, various agencies of the Cetntral and State Government provide various grants and assistance for Research and other Academic activities. The University is in its 58th year existance, and is the oldest, largest, and the most premier seat of higher education in the entire North Eastern Region of India.

Assistant Professor 1 Post (Plan post for XIIth plan or till the Academic Staff College Scheme continuous)
Educational qualification :
- Good Academic record with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) at the Master’s Degree level in a relevant subject from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foregin university.
- Besides fulfilling the above qualifications, the candidate must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC, CSIR or similar test accerdited by the UGC/SLET/SET.
- The candidates, who are, or have been awarded a Ph.D. Degree in accordance with the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and procedure for Award of Ph.D Degree Regulations, 2009, Shall be exempted from the requirement of the minimum eligibility condition of NET/SLET/SET. NET/SLET/SET shall also not be required for such Masters Programmes in disciplines for which NET/SLET/SET is not conducted .
- The applicant should be a dynamic persons, prepared to devote time and energy towards successful organization of the programmes in the ASC.
- Person capable of conducting classes in interdisciplinary subjects & persons having
- sufficient knowledge on use of computers in Office are desirable.
