About Aaranyak

Aaranyak (A Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation of India) is a frontline environmental organization of India based at Guwahati, Assam. It works all over the eastern Himalayan region on nature conservation, natural resources management, climate change, disaster management and livelihood enhancement of marginalized communities through research and advocacy.

Aaranyak wants to engage one ‘Research Assistant’ in a project on ‘Reducing flood risk by providing early warning and community based flood management planning in Eastern Brahmaputra basin, India’ being conducted under the supervision of Dr. Partha J. Das, Head, ‘Water, Climate and Hazard (WATCH) Programme’.

‘Research Assistant (Adaptation)’ in the ‘Water, Climate & Hazard (WATCH) Programme’ of Aaranyak

Job profile

The job requires intensive field work in collaboration with local communities in the eastern Brahmaputra sub-basin comprising mainly Lakhimpur & Dhemaji districts of Assam and West Siang, Lower Subansiri and Papum Pare districts f Arunachal Pradesh. We will prefer candidates who have shown proficiency in their subjects, love to take challenges, can work with communities, are skilled in writing reports in English and explore areas for future research

Essential qualification

  • Post graduate in environmental science/natural resources management/ geography/ geology/ sociology/social work/development studies and other relevant discipline
  • Ability to communicate to rural communities in Assamese

Desired qualification

Research experience in relevant field (e.g. flood management, adaptation to environment and climate change, etc.)
