The Government has instituted Ground Water Augmentation Awards (Bhoomijal Samvardhan Puraskar) and National Water Award (Rashtriya Jal Puraskar).

Awards will be given for significant contribution for encouraging Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) / Gram Panchayats / Urban Local Bodies (for population upto 1 lakh) / Institutions / Corporate Sector and Individuals for adopting innovative practices of Ground Water Resources augmentation through rainwater harvesting and artificial recharge, promoting water use efficiency and re-use of water and awareness creation through people's participation in the targeted areas resulting in the sustainability of the resources and development of adequate capacity amongst the stakeholders.

Categories of Award: The awards have been categorised into four sections:

• For the Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Gram Panchayata, Urban Local Bodies, Institution, Corporate Sectors and Individuals for adopting innovative practice of Ground Water Resources Augmentation through Rain water Harvesting and Artificial Recharge.

Description:

The SaciWATERs-CapNet Network (SCaN) invites applications for a three day training course(19th - 21st April, 2011) on the use of Open Source Geospatial Tools in Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM).

Advanced Center for Water Resources Development and Management (ACWADAM) is a Civil Society Organisation working on groundwater management in different parts of India. ACWADAM’s focus is in the area of developing and improving understanding of groundwater resources. It also deals with the demystification of groundwater science and strengthening hydrogeological capacities of institutions working in the water sector in India. Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) is a private, non-denominational development agency, established by His Highness the Aga Khan in Switzerland in 1967. In India, AKF has been working since 1973 in four thematic areas: Health, Education, Rural Development and Civil Society. The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) is implementing a Multi Input Area Development (MIAD) programme in the state of Bihar. The programme aims to improve the quality of life of marginalized communities by addressing their multi-faceted poverty through a multi-year and multi-sector approach.

Responding to increasing concerns over climate change, The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), and World Bank Tokyo Development Learning Center (TDLC) have jointly developed an eight-week blended distance learning program on “Science and Policy of Climate Change”. This will be conducted for Asia-Pacific region from 8th April to 8th June, 2011.

Like every year a vigil will be kept by various individual volunteers, NGOs along with Forest Department (FD) at forest areas falling in Mulund, Thane, Borivali for Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) & Vasai region for Tungareshwar Wildlife Sanctuary (TWLS). As you may be aware during MahaShivratri day, people enter from different directions to visit the temples around these forests. Some get inside the forests to gamble, drink, roam about, also deliberately put fire... while doing so the wildlife gets disturbed, forest fires occur, litter is spread all around, etc. Every year vigil has reduced all this to a great extent.
