Taking place in the heartland of India, New Delhi, the 8th JEEVIKA: Asia Livelihood Documentary Festival is a non-profit film showcase promoting films that put livelihood on the live wire! Organised by the Centre for Civil Society, the documentary festival is a part of the larger Livelihood Freedom Campaign ‘JEEVIKA’ which helps develop public policy measures to clear the path for free enterprise.

Nominations are invited for Indira Priyadarshini Vriksha Mitra (IPVM) Awards for the years 2011 from individuals and institutions that have done pioneering and exemplary work in the field of afforestation and wasteland development. The Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) is a public interest research and advocacy organisation based in New Delhi. CSE researches into, lobbies for and communicates the urgency of development that is both sustainable and equitable.
The CSE, an established research and advocacy institute needs Deputy Coordinator/Senior Researcher for its urban water programme.

 Even with its questionable merit, the superbug study has identified the need for us to question the focus that we have on finding  narrow solutions to health issues .It has also highlighted the urgent need to address the broader infrastructural needs of the country such as access to safe drinking water and sanitation

The superbug study

New Delhi and the world was hit by panic last week because of a recent study published in the journal The Lancet Infectious Diseases  , which found a high level of water contamination acquired from drains and public taps across India's capital city. The water was allegedly contaminated with superbugs, or what has been referred to as bacteria carrying the NDM 1 gene. Four percent of drinking water samples (2 of 50 samples) and 30 percent of drain samples (51 out of 171 samples) were found to be contaminated with superbugs [1, 2].

It also explains the various laws that have been put in place to increase groundwater replenishment.

The WHO guidelines for drinking water quality aim to protect public health and the key way to ensure this is through the adoption of Water Safety Plans (WSP). WSP includes setting of health targets, risk analysis and its assessment to identify priority hazardous scenarios and management of the risk.

Under its responsive role the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) has an elaborate programme of supporting research to individual scholars by offering them fellowships at different levels in social science disciplines.

ICSSR has granted a research project at National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) on 'Vulnerability Assessment and Mitigation Analysis for Drought Risk in Bundelkhand' for 15 months period. Fellow will be advised/promoted to register for Ph.D. in a University.

On June 7, 2000, the Delhi Jal Board and the Municipal Corporation announcement that they would create 150 ponds for rainwater harvesting. TAPAS, a non-governmental organisation, approached the Delhi High Court on June 22, 2000, to force government authorities to improve water availability and quality in the national capital. It sought restoration of neglected lakes and depressions in the city as well as the implementation of the announcement made by the authorities.

Hyderabad
The Andhra Pradesh High Court is hearing three different public interest petitions to protect the Hussainsagar lake. One seeks to prevent construction on or around the lake or its catchment area. Another aims to prevent heavy siltation due to annual immersion of idols in the lake during religious occasions.
