About Swaniti

Swaniti is an apolitical initiative that strives to build a better India by creating civically oriented opportunities for talented and passionate youth in governance and polity. The organization works with leaders across the political spectrum to identify issues in their constituency and recruits dynamic youth to design and implement solutions to overcome these challenges.

About the fellowship

Swaniti believes in a government by the people, people should be at the core. Hence the Swaniti Fellowships aims to engage the brightest youth in the country in governance by launching them in constituency development engagements, thereby involving them in development and governance.

Swaniti provides mentoring to the Fellows to enable them to successfully complete their fellowship. The mentoring is in the form of pre-fellowship training; setting expectations and supplying the Fellows with necessary resources such as research support, sector specific guidance and trouble-shooting during the Fellowship. Throughout the engagement, Fellows are expected to work with the support of the Swaniti team to meet the deliverables.

Swaniti Fellows are working across the country, working on diverse set of challenges. Every Swaniti Fellow receives a nominal stipend, which is expected to cover their daily expenses on food and other supplies while on field. Travel expenses to and fro the fellowship constituency shall have to be borne by the candidate, while accommodation and travel within the constituency will be provided for.

  2. Evaluating and strengthening vocational institutes in Chindwada, Madhya Pradesh
  3. Executing “the ponds for livelihood project” in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand
  4. Strengthening healthcare systems in Kendrapara, Orissa

Selection process

Fellows come from diverse backgrounds and there is no mandatory requirement to posses a public policy/social service background/degree. A successful candidate typically displays the following characteristics:

  •     Passion for making a difference
  •     Understanding of the political and social terrain
  •     Exceptional analytical and organizational skills
  •     Willingness to work in different environments
  •     Strong communication skills
  •     Outside-the-box thinking

The Swaniti Fellowship is open only to Indian citizens or foreign nationals of Indian origin. However, foreign applicants must have arranged appropriate documentation to work in India.

Mandatory application requirements

  • At least an undergraduate degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) from an accredited college or University
  • Proven academic and professional standing through transcripts and employment letters/references
  • Commitment to work in assigned locations during the tenure of the fellowship
  • Under 35 years of age at the time of application
