Description:
India Water Portal is a knowledge warehouse of all water and related information. It is an open, inclusive website that shares knowledge and resources on water, sanitation, agriculture, the environment, climate change, ecology and related themes and issues in India. The Data Project aims to add a complete understanding of the water data landscape to this portal. India Water Portal is primarily funded by Arghyam, a non profit organisation based in Bangalore, Karnataka.
Internship profile:
India Water Portal is looking for a Data and Research Intern for the summer of 2012. India Water Portal is embarking on several projects related to water data, specifically to do with groundwater and sanitation. We will be working to expand the data we have and analyse it to find stories and to create visualisations using it. We will also be working to make the data more accessible to different communities like designers, journalists and developers, and of course we are working with water professionals to find and locate more valuable datasets.
The intern we're seeking would assist in this project. This intern's work could include technical efforts (converting PDFs to Excel), but it will most include research (identifying new datasets, issues and gaps in existing ones, and relevant academic research). There will be a surplus of both kinds of work available, so the balance and nature of the work will be shaped by the intern and tailored to his or her skills.
Experience:
Applicants should have some of the following skills, but not all are required:
•Basic research skills (Water-related research experience a plus but not mandatory)
•Experience in working with datasets
•Writing skills
•Basic knowledge of Internet Applications and Computer Software (Microsoft Office)
Procedure to apply:
The position is aimed at current college students at the undergraduate or postgraduate level.
To apply, please email your CV to Nisha Thompson at nisha@arghyam.org and Nisreen Ahmed at nisreen@indiawaterportal.org
