Dakshin Foundation is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation based at Bangalore, with a mission to inform and advocate conservation and natural resource management, while promoting and supporting sustainable livelihoods, social development and environmental justice.
The Coastal and Marine Programme (CMP) at Dakshin works towards supporting coastal networks of community organisations, fishworker unions and associations and civil society groups interested in conservation and development issues in coastal India. The broad goals of CMP are natural resource management and biodiversity conservation involving communities.
Position and responsibilities:
We invite applications from suitable candidates for a full-time, contractual position of Programme Officer- Biodiversity (Monitoring and Education). Our requirement is for a dynamic and highly motivated individual who will work towards developing proposals, administering projects and managing grants relating to community-based monitoring programmes and education in coastal and marine systems.
Location:
The position will be based at Bangalore, but may involve considerable travel to field sites including Orissa, Tamil Nadu, Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Candidates with the following qualifications/skills will be preferred:
- A good understanding of research and monitoring protocols that straddle multiple disciplines, field sites and rural stakeholder groups in India
- A master’s degree, preferably in an environment related discipline.
- Work experience of at least two to three years in independent handling of projects relating to environment or development
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Working knowledge of regional languages including Hindi, Tamil, and/or Malayalam in addition to English
