Bhumi, Bangalore invites donations for provision of drinking water facility in a school for under-privileged children

Bhumi

Bhumi, founded in 2006 is one of India’s largest independent youth volunteer non-profit organisation. Its volunteers comprising students and young professionals work for the holistic development of under-privileged children and conservation of the environment in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, New Delhi, Maharashtra and several other states of the country. It works with children in orphanages, slum and village community centres, educating and mentoring them for a better future.

Description:

Bhumi requests for donations for provision of safe and clean drinking water to the 600 below poverty line children studying in the Government aided Koramangala Kannada and Tamil Nursery and Higher Primary School (KKTHP) at Rajendranagar slum in Koramangala, Bangalore. The school has no facility as of now to provide drinking water to the children.

Eureka Forbes has tested the school bore well water and found that the Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) was very high. The borewell water has been declared unsafe for drinking. They suggested installing a Reverse Osmosis (RO) unit for the school, which could reduce the TDS and make the water drinkable. A non-profit organization operating in the communities of slums in Koramangala (World Vision) sponsored the RO unit costing Rs. 1,75,000. But the electricity related and plumbing materials required for the installation and maintenance of the unit has to be borne by the school. It is costing them around Rs. 20,000.

The school got the RO unit in August 2011. Since then, they have been approaching various donors for help. The teachers themselves have donated money for the electrical and initial plumbing work. But today they are in need of help from more donors to help in kind or cash to get the unit installed.

If each of you can donate a small amount like Rs.100 or Rs.200, they would be able to help the children have safe drinking water. If you want to extend your help, Bhumi will coordinate and get you a receipt for the amount donated.
