"The Himmotthan Society works in the field of rural development in the Central Himalayan regions of Northern India. The various programmes of the Society reach approximately 900 villages across the northern states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, directly involving over 50,000 families.

Since 1985, International Rivers has been at the heart of the global struggle to protect rivers and the rights of communities that depend on them. We work with an international network of dam-affected people, grassroots organizations, environmentalists, human rights advocates and others who are committed to stopping destructive river projects and promoting better options.

Description: The workshop is a follow up of a previous workshop on the same concept held in April in Guwahati, by Aranyak and the River Research Centre, Kerala. These workshops are meant to bring into focus the rapidly increasingly importance of Environmental Flows as a tool for assessing the health of riverine ecosystems, as well as, as a criterion of decision making in giving environmental clearance to projects that have impacts on rivers. The Workshop will focus on awareness building and knowledge sharing on E-Flows in the context of water resources development in mountain regions, with specific emphasis on field level skills for improved planning and assessing E-Flow and related debate and discourse.

Topics: The Himmotthan Society, Dehradun and International Rivers, U.S.A., are organsing a one day workshop on environmental flows in the Western Himalayas. A Primer on the What, Why and How of environmental flows is being published by the International River(IR), authored by Latha Anantha from the River Research Centre and Parineeta Dandekar from the South Asia Network on Dams, Rivers and People (SANDRP). This will also be shared with participants during the workshop.
