WOTR

WOTR is a not-for-profit NGO founded in 1993 operating currently in five 5 Indian states – Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Jharkhand. WOTR provides capacity building and advisory services to developmental practitioners from 23 other Indian states as well as, occasionally, from 27 countries.

Description
Participatory Watershed Development has since long been accepted as an effective tool to combat drought and alleviate poverty in rural drought prone areas. Realizing its importance, both the Central Govt. as well as governments of individual states has various ongoing programs like the DPAP, WDF, etc. for undertaking Watershed programs on a large scale.  Keeping this in mind, this program has been specially designed to expose the participants in the various sectors to watershed experiences.

  • Delineation of Watershed
  • Area and Drainage Line Treatments
  • Treatments based on Land Capability Classification
  • Participatory Net Planning (PNP)
  • Feasibility Study Preparation
  • Use of Hydromarker, Abnee Level
  • Marking of contour Lines, Calculation of Slope, Contour Intervals

Course open for
The course is meant for technical staff from NGOs and other agencies. Those are directly involved in implementation of watershed development project.  Various issues related to technical aspects such as planning, designing of structures, Participatory Net Planning (PNP), different measures for area and drainage line treatments with a focus on low-cost structures. Hands on training using software for PNP.

Course fee

  • The course fee covers the costs of lodging, boarding, course material and field visit travel expenses.  Travel costs to and fro will have to be borne by the participants.
  • A registration fee of Rs. 6,000/- per participant will be charged. Payment should be made in the form of a Demand Draft drawn in favour of “Watershed Organisation Trust” payable at Ahmednagar.
  • Please note that any other contingencies including medical expenses arising during the training course will be borne by the participant

Selection and Confirmation
Confirmation letters regarding the acceptance of the nomination will be sent to participants through E-mails.

Training centre
The Watershed Training Centre is located in a developed watershed, Darewadi. WOTR has set up its Training Centre in this village, as it offers an ideal location for conducting trainings, giving the trainees first hand experience of the field and its people, thus fostering understanding and learning of the various aspects of participatory watershed development. The objective of this centre is to offer 'live' training and exposure to the trainees, where the watershed will serve as the training ground and local community as resource persons.

The Centre is well equipped with a large training hall with all the necessary facilities, a lobby for group discussions, a dormitory along with limited double/triple occupancy rooms (non AC) and a dining hall. Rooms allotted to the participants will be on a sharing basis. Arrangements will be made to transport participants from WOTR’s project office at Ahmednagar to the Training Centre as well as drop them back to Ahmednagar on the conclusion of the training.

The program will conclude at 5.00 p.m. on the closing day. Please make your return reservations accordingly, as it is difficult to get reservations from Ahmednagar at the last minute.

Language of training
The course will be conducted in English, Marathi and Hindi
