Fresh Water

To provide sufficient water for household and agricultural purpose in arid zones there are only 2 ways:
fossil water and new fresh water.
Fossil water is the easiest way but limited in quantity and a short time policy.
New water can be produced with several techniques but the most promising and everlasting technology is desalination of salt water by solar power.
This technologies are obviously applicable in every arid zone with sunshine.

Following subjects will be treated at the symposium.

Feasibility

Can the production of water by means of solar power be a commercial project or will it be an everlasting investment?
Can the linking with a power production reduce the price of the water at agricultural level?

The Technology

What is the most obvious technology: using the heat directly for distillation or using the solar power for the production of power and desalinate with Memstill or reversed osmosis or…?

Which systems are available?

The salt

Massive desalination produces a huge amount of salt. Is there a use for this salt?  Where can we store it without ecological damage?

Climate Change

Does the climate change influence the global water household?
Must we act now or is there time left?

The debate

Is there a political will to realise this program and give people the water they need for a decent living.
What is the international community willing to do?
Are the MDG 7 just a matter of statistics or a living reality?

Scientific answers

You can expect scientific based answers and answers based on concrete realisations by the finest scientists and decision makers.
