As you may have heard, Prof. Brij Gopal passed away earlier this month, leaving behind a towering legacy both as an academic and as a human being. For many of us, it is also a huge absence from our lives, as friends, family, colleagues and students.
With over 50 years of research experience, 40+ years of teaching experience, 100s of research papers and books, and an indomitable zeal, Prof. Brij Gopal worked tirelessly towards the conservation of freshwater ecosystems.
His work has been recognised worldwide, and awards from all possible corners conferred on him, including the first ever Science Academy Medal for Young Scientists (Indian National Science Academy, 1974). Prof. Brij Gopal also held important positions in governmental and non-governmental institutions, within India as well as Internationally.
