Description:
HSS&M of IITBBS is organizing a Workshop on "Environmental Impact Assessment: Issues, Challenges, and Policy Implications in India” (EIA-2012) during June 9-10, 2012. We look forward to your participation and support in making this workshop a success.
Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is an important policy tool for decision makers, regulators and stakeholders to be aware of the possible environmental, social and economic costs of a proposed project and /or interventions. A proper EIA is also very essential for a sustainable and appropriate decision making process. However, researchers, planners, policy makers and those concerned with EIA remain less aware of the various issues, challenges, steps and processes involved in executing EIA. There is a genuine need for capacity building in EIA processes and steps to conduct transparent public consultations and to evaluate EIA reports, especially after the new EIA notification by Government of India. Thus there is a need to develop awareness among community based organizations, nongovernmental organizations, corporate organization, academicians and environmental managers to understand and review EIA reports as they are more or less technical in nature.
This workshop aims at developing proficiency in EIA among the researchers, policy makers and planners, corporate institutions, forest officials, non-government organizations, and environment managers. This workshop will have a core team of experts from various disciplines of premier institutions to share their expertise and experience on various aspects of EIA in India. The workshop will provide unique opportunity for all participants to improve their understanding of the EIA in great detail.
