Rashtriya Garima Abhiyan is a national campaign of the people who have suffered the indignity of manual scavenging from generations or have been struggling to end this shameful tradition.
Description
The unjust and inhuman practice of manual scavenging violates human rights of one the most excluded communities in India. It is a question of the social system in which the Dalits are compelled to do this work. It is amply clear that manual scavenging is one of the prominent forms of discrimination and atrocities that has been taking place with Dalits since ages and which is central to violation of their human rights.
This consultation is proposed to be hosted by liberated manual scavengers from different states. This would also be attended by other stakeholders – activists, members of non-governmental organizations, representatives from the government, commissions, media and others
