This course is focused on, the theory, practice and policy of rainwater harvesting (RWH) and is open for all working professionals including civil engineers, architects, urban planners, environment consultants, municipal water managers, policy makers and NGOs. This hands- on workshop will combine class room lectures, field visits, practical exercises and interactive seminars to help you in planning, designing and implementation of rainwater harvesting systems for micro and macro catchments in urban areas. It also undertakes policy and social mobilization aspects of rainwater harvesting. Application Deadline: July 4, 2008 COURSE MODULES a) Class-room sessions: Overview , Water , yesterday, today and tomorrow - Traditions, current paradigms Science of Rainwater Harvesting: - Sessions on groundwater, hydrogeology and hydrometeorology - Technology of Rainwater harvesting - Principles, components, planning, designing and construction techniques - Filters, water quality issues and treatment options - Costing, maintenance and monitoring mechanisms Harvesting the city's water endowment: - Harvesting rainwater from residential and institutional buildings, colonies, industries, public areas like parks, airports, forested areas etc. Policy framework for rainwater harvesting: - Water policy and legislation - Fiscal incentives and disincentives - Making water everybody's business: A primer for action - Strategies for catalyzing rainwater harvesting Experiences and examples: b) Practical sessions: All sessions followed by innovative practical assignments & discussion c) Field visits: Traditional water harvesting structures, their state of negligence & relevance in today's context and Model RWH project sites designed by CSE d) Film Shows: Traditional water harvesting system of India & urban RWH explaining finer components e) Workshops: On planning, design and project proposal Date: July 14-18, 2008, Time: 10:00 am to 6:00 pm Venue: Anil Agarwal Green College, 41, Tughlakabad Institutional Area, New Delhi , 110062 Accommodation: We can help arrange accommodation for participants (at cost).
