Background
The rapid growth of the Indian economy has put tremendous pressure on Indian road & rail networks. Congestion is widespread and the infrastructure burden on land is immense. Movement of cargo through coastal shipping has inherent advantages over land modes of transport such as road & rail. Coastal shipping saves energy, is environmentally friendly and fewer lives are lost in accidents.
Despite these advantages , coastal movement of freight in India forms a very small proportion of our domestic movement. If properly integrated into a multi modal transport network that includes road and rail, coastal shipping has considerable potential to relieve transport comgestion and also reduce the huge external costs on the environment by land transport modes.
About the conference
The one day programme will consist of 3 sessions, each followed by an inter active question answer series
- Session I : A panel discussion- Stake holders' perspective
- This session will see active debate and discussion between stakeholders to identify the key elements of such harmonization to promote coastal shipping.
- Session II: Integartion of coastal shipping with other modes of transport
- This session will see expert presentations on how the obstacles can be removed and transport modes integrated
- Session III: Policy making , role of industry associations & finance
- The eminent speakers in this session will elaborate on government policy as it stands today and give their views on how it could be reshaped / refined.

The fee along with the duly filled in registration form should be paid in advance by a DD / Cheque in favour of “Confederation of Indian Industry” payable at Chennai. The delegate fee is non-refundable; however change in nomination is accepted.
However there is an additional discount of 10% for more than 3 participations from the same organization.
