Description:
Safe drinking water, sanitation and good hygiene are fundamental to human health, survival, growth and development. However, these basis necessities are still a luxury for many of the World’s poor people. In India, while massive inputs have been made by both State Governments and the Central Government, water supply and sanitation in urban as well as in rural areas continues to be inadequate although the coverage has increased significantly during the 2000s. Access to improve sources of water in India has increased from 72 percent in 1990 to 88 percent in 2008, where as access to improved sanitation increased from 18 percent in 1990 to 31 percent in 2008.
