Description:

Rainwater harvesting is a practical and economical small-scale technology that is contributing significantly to the preservation of environment and ecology in the semi-arid and sub-humid regions. It has a widespread application both in household water supply and sustainable agriculture. It is an important water source in areas with significant rainfall but lacking conventional, centralized supply system. It is also a good option in areas where good-quality fresh surface water or groundwater is lacking. In urban cities, harvested rainwater is used for sanitation, fire-protection, environmental-greening, back-up water supply, underground water recharge and landscape. Rainwater utilization demands little energy and is pollution free. Therefore, it should deserve more undivided attention and should play an important role in achieving sustainable water resources in the future.

The 15th International Rainwater Catchment Systems Conference will be held in Taiwan from March 28 to April 4, 2011. This is a continuation of a long series of international conferences held in Hawaii 1982, Virgin Islands 1984, Thailand 1987, Philippines 1989, Taiwan 1991, Kenya 1993, China, 1995, Iran 1997, Brazil 1999, Germany 2001, Mexico 2003, India, 2005, Australia 2007 and Malaysia 2009.
