Posted on 14 Sep, 2010 09:06 AMThis deals with the guidelines of the Central Water Commission (CWC) for project appraisal of irrigation, flood control and multi-purpose projects for both major and medium projects, with inter-state ramifications revised in 2002. Under the new procedure the concerned State Government, in the initial stage first submits preliminary report covering surveys and investigations, international and inter-state aspects, hydrology, irrigation planning, brief environmental aspects, intended benefits etc., which are obligatory to establish the soundness of the project proposal.
Guidelines for preparation of a river basin master plan - Central Water Commission (2007)
Posted on 14 Sep, 2010 08:19 AMThis deals with the guidelines of the Central Water Commission (CWC) for preparation of river basin master plan, which was revised in 2007 in view of the new challenges and issues that have emerged in the water resources sector. The need for integrated river basin planning, development and management arises from the relationship between the availability of water resources and its possible uses in various sectors.
Integrated Hydrological and Water Data Books - Central Water Commission (2005-09)
Posted on 01 Aug, 2010 12:52 AMIntegrated Hydrological Data Books are a compendium of important hydrological information of twelve non-classified basins (i.e., other than Ganga and Brahmaputra) consolidated at the national level by the Central Water Commission (CWC).
It covers basic hydrological data on gauge, discharge, silt, sedimentation and water quality collected on a regular basis by the CWC regional field offices, who document it in the form of a Water Year Book, Sediment Year Book and Water Quality Year Book. These along with the relevant land use statistics collected by the Ministry of Agriculture are integrated into this Data Book.
The information is of use to planners, researchers, policy makers and the public at large.

Effect of climate change on water resources - a preliminary consolidated report by Central Water Commission and the National Institute of Hydrology
Posted on 28 May, 2009 01:12 PMThis report on the Effect of Climate Change on Water Resources, prepared by the Central Water Commission and the National Institute of Hydrology, under the guidance of the Ministry of Water Resources in 2008, is one of the first official reports made available by the Government of India, of a reliable quantitative assessment based on field data, of the likely effect of climate change on the availability of water resources, i.e. on the glaciers and snow melt, on rainfall and their effect on run off into the river system and their contribution to ground water.
Preliminary consolidated report on the effect of climate change on water resources, prepared by the Central Water Commission and the National Institute of Hydrology, under the guidance of the Ministry of Water Resources in 2008
Posted on 05 Jan, 2009 11:22 AMThe Preliminary Consolidated Report on the Effect of Climate Change on Water Resources, prepared by the Central Water Commission and the National Institute of Hydrology, under the guidance of the Ministry of Water Resources in 2008, is one of the first official reports made available by the Government of India, of a reliable quantitative assessment based on field data, of the likely effect of climate change on the availability of water resources, i.e. on the glaciers and snow melt, on rainfall and their effect on run off into the river system and their contribution to ground water. In the Report, an attempt has been made to give a brief account of the available studies on possible impacts of climate change on India's water resources, change in India's water needs, climate of India, river basins of the country, present water resources and future demand and supply, impacts of projected climate change and variability, and associated hydrological events and likely vulnerability of regional water resources to climate change. Identification of key risks, research needs and prioritisation of mitigation strategies has also been discussed.
