System of rice intensification (SRI) practices: a multimedia toolkit from World Bank Institute

The World Bank Institute has developed this multimedia toolkit in two parts, to help disseminate information and create awareness about SRI.

Part A: Improving rice productivity and achieving water savings (12 minutes)

Part A of the toolkit, gives an overview of the basic elements of the SRI method and lists some of the benefits and constraints of SRI application, and concludes that SRI is a definite new window of opportunity to increase food production and raise farmer incomes today, in the face of challenges from population growth, competition for water and a changing climate. This presentation is intended for policy and decision makers, managers of development projects and stakeholders involved in agriculture, water resource and irrigation management. Read more

Part B: "How-to" guide for farmers and practitioners based on an application in Philippines (15 minutes)

Part B of the toolkit, is a step by step guide of the SRI method in the context of Philippines, organised around six basic steps - land preparation, seedling preparation, innovative transplanting, intermittent irrigation, rotary weeding, and organic fertiliser application. This presentation is intended for farmers and practitioners who are interested in seeing how to apply SRI on the ground. Read more
