Rainwater harvesting law in Bangalore - Has it worked ? - A video interview with an experienced plumber in Bangalore

This short video produced by Avinash Krishnamurthy  for Earthworm Firefly presents the perspectives of an experienced plumber, Pradeep Kumar, from Bangalore on rainwater harvesting. The significant increase in the number of rainwater harvesting structures in the city is attributed to the uncertainty in water supplied by the water board and the drying up of groundwater in the city. Depending on the preference and convenience of  users, different structures are made where rainwater is collected. These can vary from extra tank, recharge pit, sump or an already existing bore well.

Kumar, who has a team of 25 members, is into this work for the past 8 years now, says that rainwater harvesting is a good method to conserve water and there is awareness among people about its benefits. On an average, he gets 100 small and 1-2 big projects to set up rainwater harvesting structures. The cost incurred for such projects is dependent on the size of structure with a minimum investment starting from Rs. 10,000.
