More rain water needed for the east flowing rivers of South India

SIMPLE & EFFECTIVE Method to increase WATER to east flowing RIVERS of SOUTH INDIA.

WESTERN GHATS are the mighty walls created by the nature.

Manson clouds which carry huge quantity of water dose hit these mountains and down pour the rain water on these mountains. Therefore, at almost all places in the Western Ghats, we get heavy to very heavy rain fall during June to Sept of each year. Quite naturally, these areas give birth to many of the big or small rivers. Some of such rivers flow to east whereas many of them run towards west.

EAST FLOWING RIVERS are highly useful. They irrigate millions of hectares of land, quench the thirst and needs of billions of human beings & live stocks. These rivers help in the development of industries also.

Rain water running through the WEST FLOWING RIVERS during monsoon is really not much useful now. It is a great loss to the NATION and to the MANKIND. During monsoon, they overflow & cause flood resulting in loss of lives/ property. A large quantity of monsoon rain reaches the sea by flowing a short distance. [Longest west flowing river is Netravathi and its length is about 96 KMs] Thus, abundant quantity of rain water which is the only source for SOUTH INDIA is reaching the sea with in a day!{because, even if the flood water runs at a very slow speed of 5KM /hour, the rain water done not need 24 hours  travel 96 KM to  reach the sea!!}

IT IS POSSIBLE TO USE THIS WATER IN A MUCH BETTER WAY [which is a very valuable resource of our NATION & of even the whole of the MANKIND]

HOW TO GO AHEAD?

 All most all EAST FLOWING rivers of South India are originating at the WESTERN GHATS at an altitude of say 2300 ft. MSL. Such spots are usually surrounded by high hills. Heights of such surrounding high hills are ranging from 2500 ft to 4800 ft.

 These hills have got steep slops to the western side. Naturally, the rail water which falls on the western side of these mountains run quickly towards the west and reach the streams of the west flowing rivers.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT to note that , JUST Very near to these spots,[which are very high rain zones] the rain water which falls in the east and northern side of these  mountains reaches the streams of the EAST flowing rivers.

THESE ARE THE SPOTS WHERE WE ARE TO PUT OF PLAN OF ACTION.

IT IS POSSIBLE TO INCREASE THE WATER TO THE EAST FLOWING RIVERS [without causing any damage to the people of the western side]

It is known that, each river is supported by many of its tributaries. Each such tributary is supported by many a streams and each such stream originate at the vallyes of these mighty mountains.

IT IS SIMPLY A COMMONSENCE! WE CAN TURN THE RAIN WATER HITTING THE WESTERN SIDE TOP OF THE MOUNTAINS TO REACH THE STREAM OF EAST FOLWING RIVER.!!

HOW IT WORKS?

Here is the answer.

A live example will help to explain the concept easily.

TALAKAVERY is the spot where, RIVER KAVERY originates. This spot is surrounded by high hills with  height of  about 3000 ft to 4300 ft. MSL.What ever rain that hits the eastern part and the north ran part of these hills is reaching the streams and tributaries of KAVERY.They join the river KAVERY near BHAGAMANDALA[SANGAMA]

This town Bhagamandala is at a height of about 2750 ft MSL.

PLAN OF ACTION.

For our experiment, Let us dig a cannel/trench of say 2 KM from the western side of this hill at an altitude of say 3000 feet and giving slop towards the eastern side. Let the mouth of the trench be linked to one of the near by stream of river KAVERY. Rain water that is hitting the top of the mountain [say 3500 to 4300ft MSL] will run down. As there is an artificial channel for its movement, the water will start moving in the channel and the water takes a turn to the EAST. [is it not simple!?} As the channel reaches the tributary of the river, the inflow of water to the river will increase. By doing such constructions of suitable lengths at many more suitable areas, the ‘CATCHEMENT AREA ‘of river can be transformed with out many problems.

In the rainy days, these areas will get rain for about 20 hours a day! So, each of these trenches/cannels will work and turn the water for all these 20 hours a day!!.

BENEFITS;

BY digging these trenches/cannels at different and suitable points, we can increase the inflow of water to RIVER HEMAVATHI, River Kannika, River HATTI HOLE, River Lakshmana Thirtha etc.When the inflow of water will be more, then the DAM at GORUR & at HAARANGI will get filled quickly. [Instead of Mid August, they will get filled up fully by July end itself. So, more water received will have to be released to KRS. At K.R.S. also, more water will be available to irrigation aswellas for power generation. [Kabini also will give water.]

When more of water is released, then METTUR DAM gets more of water an that dam also get filled early. The present problem of water among the states can be resolved. Raising demand for water can be better managed.

A  SIMPLE BUT A VERY EFFECTIVE METHOD for implementation.

Let us imagine that, we start digging a 2 KM channel at the high hill in the month of January and complete the work in MAY [i.e. in 4 months]. We can start getting the benefit of extra water from THE NEXT MONTH i.e. JUNE of the same year!!So,

*there will be NO gestation period.

*There will be NO cast escalation.

*There will be NO ecological imbalance.

*There will be NO deforestation to a large extent.

*The investment for this project will be very less & 100% result oriented.

*Better control of flood on the west flowing rivers.

THIS CONCEPT OF ME  is confirmed by my keen observations at different river basins[some places walked for 25-28 KMs] It is based on the practical  experiences & observation made by me for many years while I was  serving at KODAGU [COORG] ,Chickmagaluru and other parts.

BYADOPTING THE SAME CONCEPT, flow of water to RIVER TUNGA, RIVER BHADRA and many more rivers can also be increased without causing damage.

I thank TARANGA for publishing this concept of me way back in 1994.
