Rockefeller IIIrd Scholars Program at Winrock International, with support from UNICEF India, is holding a grant competition to select a research team on the topic: `Multiple-Use Water Services to Reduce Poverty and Vulnerability to Climate Change.' The research will identify promising opportunities to upgrade current drinking water systems to provide for the domestic and productive water needs of the rural poor, and to develop a framework for services that are resilient to climate change. The grant competition will take place in two phases: 1) In phase one, individuals or teams are invited to submit concise, 5-page concepts on the proposed topic. Planning grant concepts are due by November 18th, 2008. The concepts will be reviewed by a panel of local experts, and up to three concepts will be selected to receive a planning grant of US $1,500. The winning teams will use the planning grant over a one month period to put together a multi-disciplinary research team and prepare a full proposal for submission. 2) In phase two, one full proposal will be selected to carry out the proposed research over a two-year period. Support for the winning team will include funds for researcher salary, travel, communications, research assistants and other direct research costs. Eligible candidates will be mid-career scholars who are citizens of and reside in India. Applicants must have at least an M.S./M.A. in a relevant field.
