These two maps show the hot and cold desert regions of the country, as well as areas that are regularly affected by natural disasters such as droughts, floods and cyclones.

Southern Tamil Nadu, Rayalseema region of Andhra Pradesh, Northern and Eastern Karnataka, Central Maharashtra, Saurashtra and Kutch regions of Gujarat, parts of Eastern and Southern Rajasthan, Bundhelkhand region, Western Orrisa and parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttarakhand constitute the drought prone regions of the country.

The flood affected region extents to most of the Ganga-Yamuna basin across Uttar Pradesh, Northen Bihar, deltaic regions of West Bengal as well as the Brahmaputra valley portion in Assam. Parts of the Narmada and Tapi basins in South Gujarat and upper reaches of the Krishna and Godavari basin in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh are also flood prone.

The cyclonic storm affected area extends from Kerala, the coastal belt of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and West Bengal.
