This presentation provides information on the efforts made by Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Pvt Ltd, Varanasi at water management. The plant aims at efficient & effective use of water during beverage manufacturing process by continually improving the infrastructure, monitoring & controlling the consumption of water at individual areas & imparting awareness to associates. The water conservation strategy at the plant is centered on the 4R approach (reduce, reuse, recycle and recharge).
Among the various dimensions of this are awareness activities on water use, optimization of water consumption in bottle washing through nozzle size reduction, reuse of steam condensate, final rinse water and discharge water for gardening, recycling of bottle water washer and a range of recharge measures including rooftop rainwater collection, surface collection and percolation ponds.
These measures have led to a 23% reduction in water usage and a 68% reduction in waste water discharge quantity in the last 4 years. Documentation includes a detailed design schematic for a rooftop rainwater harvesting apparatus. The company has created an RWH potential of 32,808 cu m, which is equal to 70% of the water drawn by the plant.
