Green patch today, garbage dump tomorrow: DDA clears Dwarka landfill proposal

Delhi Development Authority decides to handover two green spaces for landfill site in Dwarka
The DDA has cleared a proposal to modify land-use and set aside green spaces for an upcoming landfill in Dwarka amidst stiff opposition from locals. The space would be handed over to the Corporation once the Union Urban Development Ministry notifies the change in land-use. Two district parks measuring a total of ten acres will now be at the Corporation’s disposal to implement its  'zero waste' project.
 
Environment-friendly toilet complexes inaugurated in Okhla slum  
Two environment-friendly toilet complexes were inaugurated in South Delhi’s Okhla slums. With this, the total number of urban toilet complexes constructed in the capital moves up to 38, while another 20 is in the anvil. The Delhi Urban Slum Improvement Board maintains 544 toilet complexes in 775 Jhuggi Jhopdi or slum clusters in Delhi. 
 
Kerala government approves Brahmapuram solid waste management plant  
The Kerala Government has approved the setting up of the Brahmapuram solid waste management. The plant which will come up through Public-Private partnership is capable of processing 300 tonnes of waste daily. The plant will employ ‘waste-to-energy technology’ and the energy generated will be added to the KSEB grid.
 
Korba Municipal Corporation to install converter capable of treating organic waste through public- private participation
Thanks to AMRUT, the city of Korba in Chhattisgarh will soon have an 'Organic Waste Converter System' with a capacity of handling 400 kilograms of waste per day. Such systems are mainly used in developing countries to manage organic waste. Korba is among nine cities lined up for infrastructure facelift under the Atal Mission in the state.
 
Punjab government to construct 8 lakh toilets in rural areas over the next 2 years  
The State Government has set aside Rs. 1200 Crores to construct 8 lakh toilets in rural areas. In the first phase, 2,68,700 toilets are expected to be constructed in 4,000 villages by March 31, 2016.
