Flood Relief: Houses From Assam

As victims of the Kosi river flooding struggle to get back to their homes, a group of experts from the Guwahati-based Cane and Bamboo Technology Centre (CBTC) has thought up an innovative solution to the current need for short to long term housing in relief camps.

A model bamboo shelter has been designed that is eco-friendly, permanent, and can be set up within a day. The report from Yahoo News quotes the director of CBTC, Kamesh Salam as "Time has come to seriously think about the permanent rehabilitation of the flood survivors of Bihar. Thus we have developed a hut for the victims that is simple, economical and affordable, flood-resilient and climate friendly.
