Help influence water and environmental policy for the Himalayan states: Sustainable Development Forum, Nagaland and India Water Portal invite contributions for the upcoming Mountain Summit at Kohima, Nagaland in September 2013
Posted on 29 Jul, 2013 06:15 AMThe catastrophe at Uttarakhand in June 2013, was a hot topic of discussion for many of us across the country, but only those who live in the Himalayan states understand the significance and impact it has on their lives. Poor policies and governance were the root cause; much more than heavy rains.

Beware of genetically modified crops!
Posted on 25 Jul, 2013 01:36 PMWhen the DNA of a plant is modified using genetic engineering techniques or biotechnology, the plant is said to have been genetically modified (GM). What does this mean to you and I? Quite simply, it means that the crop could have undergone this process in order to become something that it wasn't in the first place.

Water for sale - to the highest bidder!
Posted on 25 Jul, 2013 01:02 PMDid you know that the planet would die in three days if it ran out of water? Water is a basic necessity and the United Nations recognized the right to it as a basic human right in 2010. Isn’t it ironic that we are still allowing a few utility companies privatise it, speculate over it and control it?

Fighting the good fight using the Right to Information Act (RTI)
Posted on 20 Jul, 2013 11:21 AMWhat exactly does a 'campaign' look like? What do people actually do when they 'protest' against something? And how do the protesters get hold of all the facts that they quote? These questions surfaced every time I read about a campaign or a protest on environmental or human rights issues but I never got any answers that made me wiser. Until this summer.

Shanty City: Mumbai
Posted on 17 Jul, 2013 10:16 AMCities and slums coexist in India. Some view these slums as shanties that destroy the image of a world class city while others view them as informal groups that support the city for its needs.

Sacchidanand Bharti - in his own words
Posted on 15 Jul, 2013 07:12 PMReams have been written about Sacchidanand Bharti, of Ufrenkhal fame and his work on afforestation and water conservation. However, very rarely does he speak about his own efforts and experiences.
