A hand washing survey is being conducted by SIGMA Foundation, a not for profit society, in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. The objective is to know about handwashing practices being followed across different sections of the society in India.

According to the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) website, access to toilets has improved in India and 28 out of 36 states and Union Territories are now open defecation free (ODF). While that’s good news, managing faecal sludge in ODF states in an eco-friendly way continues to be a big challenge.

National Environment Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) in association with University of Liverpool (UK) is conducting online survey on the functioning of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) in India and the UK. The purpose of the survey is to reflect on the experiences of professionals with EIA in the past and also to look ahead to the future role of EIA.

The first three parts of the survey is based on what your experiences of EIA are while the fourth part relates to what EIA should be like. The survey is anonymous and completing it will take approximately 10 to 15 minutes of your time. Please note the ‘save’ option in the survey does not actually let you save and come back to the survey later.

Polavaram projectThis document published by IWMI and CGIAR describes the details of the Polavaram project, which has been planned by the state of Andhra Pradesh as a multi-purpose project:

  • to provide irrigation benefits to the upland areas
  • to provide a water supply to the industries in Visakhapatnam city, including the Steel Plant, for the generation of hydropower
  • for the development of navigation and recreation facilities.

The project envisages the construction of an earth-cum-rock filled dam that is 1,600 m long across the Godavari River at Polavaram, and about 42 km upstream of the Godavari Barrage at Dowlaiswaram.
