Aqua Foundation is pleased to announce one day workshop on 'Latest Trends in Dam Safety' to be held at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, on November 19th 2011. The workshop is being held as post conference workshop after international exhibition and conference of water being held at the same venue from November 16th to November 18th 2011.

 

The workshop is aimed at updating participants on latest tools and technologies available in the field of dam safety. Dams in the country represent a major investment and huge benefits to population in terms of irrigation, power and flood control. Most of the big dams are very old and regular monitoring and maintenance of these dams is of utmost importance for continuing benefits.

The workshop will discuss new dam safety bill as well, which is presently with parliamentary standing committee and likely to become an act very soon. The new dam safety act will have major impact on the way dams are designed, built and maintained. The workshop provides an ideal opportunity to participants to get familiar with salient features of proposed dam safety act, enabling them to take necessary steps towards compliance.

The workshop is proposed to be conducted by experienced personnel from the field including:

  • Dr. B.R. K. Pillai - Director (DS-R) & Project Director (DRIP), Central Water Commission
  • Mr. S.K. Sengupta, Retd. Chief Engineer (Dam Safety), Central Water Commission
  • Dr. Sanjay Rana, Professional Geophysicist with extensive experience on dam investigations
  • Dr. Sam Johansson, Expert on Optical Fibre Sensors for monitoring seepage in the Dams

The key elements of the workshop are:

  • Introduction to Indian Dams
  • Salient features of proposed Dam Safety Bill and its impact on new/ existing dams
  • Importance of regular inspection & monitoring of dams
  • Use of geophysical investigations for health check of dams
  • Use of Temperature and strain sensing for dams
  • Latest Developments including Optical Fiber Sensors

Registration fee:
The registration fee for the workshop is Rs 4,000 per participant, which includes training material, tea and lunch. Details of participants along with DD towards fee can be sent in favour of Aqua Foundation, payable at New Delhi.
