About ECSI

The Electrochemical Society of India (ECSI) at Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru (est. 1963) is one of the well known scientific societies in India. It aims to create awareness in bringing together scientists, technologists, industries and academic institutions working in different disciplines.

Workshop details

In this workshop, we propose to undertake the above aspects of water, as the awareness regarding these seem to be very low amongst user groups in urban and rural areas. As per WHO the cause for 1/3rd deaths globally are because of water borne diseases like Cholera, Typhoid, Hepatitis etc.

Areas covered

  • Water, its importance for good health, need for water supplies of assured quality and quantity.
  • Water pollution and public health , consumer awareness aspects
  • Current water purification technologies/ methods, at community level and household level-including state of art RO purification.
  • Case studies of water based information e.g. analysis reports of different physico-chemical and bacteriological aspects, contaminants present in drinking water, their interpretation in terms of health aspects and appropriate remedial measures.
  • Pure water quality-how it promotes excellent health, at a very nominal cost: e.g. how to start a co-operative/ social setup for organising an RO water purification system with UV and /or ozone disinfection, to provide the benefits to all members and non-members in a specific water quality- stressed area.
  • Self sustaining operation and maintenance of the RO systems would be taught, and demonstrated, and in due course assistance is extended to run the RO plants efficiently.
  • Miniature but essential testing of raw water and RO pure water to be established in- house in these established and collective training centres, for representative of the organisation at a nominal cost.
