About Ecosan:
The Ecological Sanitation (Ecosan) approach follows the principle of ‘closing the loop’ and offers a safe solution that helps prevent diseases and promotes good health by removing pathogens and recapturing nutrients in order to reuse them in agriculture or horticulture.
Though Ecosan is increasingly becoming known in India, there is a significant lack of qualified personnel and of people capable of implementing these systems at the grassroot level. Recognizing the critical need for competent human resources for this system, CDD Society and Ecosan Services Foundation envisage dissemination of appropriate knowledge and skills on this option among professionals.
Programme Overview:
The training programme aims to increase awareness on alternative sanitation by focusing on the agricultural, social, economic and financial aspects of EcoSan. It will also assess possible technical options to pilot them at the local level. Finally, it will train participants to disseminate his/her knowledge on this sustainable sanitation option. The training programme will facilitate participants in assessing the advantages and disadvantages of different sanitation systems and, in typical locations, initiate and plan EcoSan solutions.
Potential applicants for this course are sanitation enthusiasts from NGOs, government organizations (especially rural department) and environmental/sanitation consultants. The training programme offers interactive sessions, group works, and analysis of case studies, role plays and technical discussions, imparted by an experienced Ecosan Services Foundation training team supported by CDD Society.
Eligibilty:
The training programme will be conducted from 3rd to 5th March 2014. As seats are limited to 20, CDD Society will screen and select most eligible applicants. The training fee is Rs. 12,000/- per participant. An additional Rs.3,000/- per night would be chargeable for accommodation facilities if requested by the registered participants.
