This manual by the UNICEF contains a synthesis of the knowledge UNICEF and its partners have gained over the last ten years in arsenic mitigation programmes in Asia, including information on the occurrence and effects of arsenic, mitigation programme design, testing, communication, and water supply options.
It also includes references to additional sources of information for each subject area. This manual will help UNICEF, governments and other stakeholders to take the necessary steps to help ensure the safety of water supplies for children and their families, in countries, such as India, where there is a high risk of arsenic contamination.
The manual is divided into the following chapters:
1. Introduction
2. Arsenic Occurrence in Groundwater
3. Health Effects
4. The UNICEF Role in Arsenic Mitigation
