Society for Rural, Urban & Tribal Initiative (SRUTI) calls for Advocacy Fellowship - Apply by - 20th February, 2011

Society for Rural, Urban and Tribal Initiative (SRUTI) is a not-for-profit organisation that facilitates social action across rural and urban India towards a more equitable and democratic society that envisions dignity and justice for all.

This short-term fellowship, awarded to 7 applicants, aims to document key issues and struggles for justice addressed by the SRUTI Fellows through their individual efforts and people’s movements in different parts of the country.

The broad areas of work are:

  • Right to Natural Resource Livelihood (Jal, Jangal, Zameen)
  • Effective Governance
  • Education
  • Caste Discrimination
  • Rights to the City and Education.

The SRUTI Fellows area of work spreads across 12 states: Uttarakhand, Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Orissa, Andhra Pradhesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

The Advocacy Fellows and films will be mentored and directed by Rita Banerji who has aligned with the SRUTI team to facilitate and monitor the project.

The Fellowship will begin in the first week of March with an orientation workshop to sensitize the selected Advocacy Fellows to the issues on the ground and introduce them to the SRUTI Fellows. The workshop will also mentor and train them to research, script, document and put together the series of films.

Ministry of Culture operates the Scheme for the Award of Senior/Junior Fellowships for undertaking research oriented projects in the fields of performing, literary and plastic arts as also new areas related to culture. The scheme has recently been revised and, starting from the year 2010-11, a total of 400 Fellowships will be awarded for a maximum period of two years, out of which 200 are Senior fellowships having a value of Rs.20,000/- per month for artistes in the age group of above 40 years and 200 are Junior Fellowships having a value of Rs.10,000/- per month for the artistes in the age group of 25-40 years.

InSPIRE is a 5-week long summer immersion program in India that aims to facilitate the process of both internal and external exploration for young Indians/South Asians drawn to the land of their heritage.

The short duration and middle-of-summer dates allow participants from quarter, semester and trimester system universities the flexibility to schedule other activities before or after the program, such as volunteering with an Indian NGO, visiting relatives in India or getting a job.

The Centre for Atmospheric Sciences(CAS), Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi is organising this programme which is sponsored by Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Forty candidates will be selected from all over the country. The programme will be held at CAS, IIT, Delhi.

Eligibility:

M.Sc./M.Tech. degree in Physics/ Meteorology/ Atmospheric Sciences/ Geophysics/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Oceanography / Computer Science with overall good academic record with at least one year working experience/ exposure relevant to the field of Atmospheric Science. Those who have Ph.D. Degree and working on monsoon related problems will be given preference.

Programme period: 27th June–20th July 2011

Age limit: Less than 35 years as on 31st March 2011.

IFPThe Western Ghats Biodiversity Open Collaborative Information System or Western Ghats Portal (WGP) is a joint project between French Institute of Pondicherry and Strand Life Sciences, representing India Biodiversity Portal. WGP is being funded by Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund. CEPF is a global programme that works towards safeguarding biodiversity hotspots by providing strategic assistance to non-governmental organizations, community groups and other civil society partners. ATREE is the Regional Implementation Team to implement the conservation strategy outlined in the Western Ghats Ecosystem profile in partnership with CEPF.
